Memorial Day Weekend

It was over 90 degrees this weekend and I knit socks. Wool socks. Finally got these ones finished up.

These were dyed on a knitted tube with Cushings Perfection Acid Dyes and the unraveled and re-knit into the sock with a chevron pattern that I found in a knitting dictionary from the library a long time ago.

Here's a close-up opf the fabric. I liked using the knitted tube--I am actually teaching a workshop on it this fall. I think it is a little easier to control than a 20-ft skein.

My folks came for a visit and I brought the wheel outside and spent the afternoon working. The colored ply is a mixture of 80% SD wool, 20% mohair and 10% silk noil. That is exactly what it says on the label. I am going to have to give the supplier a hard time the next time I see her. I chose to ply with a solid left over from another project as I didn't have enough for a larger project otherwise. I have a vest pattern in mind for this.

Still Around

Spring is soo busy. Trying to get the garden planted, the house completely over-hauled for parental visit and still trying to get my towels woven/finished for belated mother's day presents!

In the fiber world, I have been working on a handpun sweater forever, and finally finished the second sleeve. It was then I discovered that I must have sone the decreases different on the first sleeve as there is a NOTICEABLE size difference between the two. I am going to try to get creative with the sewing machine before I start frogging.

I have also used up the Easter egg dyes on clearance for this lace weight yarn:

I like it better now that it is wound into this yummy looking yarn cake.

It's in the bag!

My first big weaving project. I have a 20" rigid heddle loom and have been experimenting with the log cabin pattern. I really like how something simple can look complex. This is with two differntly textured yarn. The colored is a alpaca/silk laceweight from KnitPicks. The black is plain crochet cotton. Both are doubled. After much contemplation, I decided on a bag. I was very pleased with the texture of the fabric, but it didn't have the drape of a wrap. It was very dificult making that first cut with the scissors!!! I am very pleased with it and even my husband said that perhaps this was the best fiber project I had made so far.

What seems strange to me is how different the fabric looks in its finished form vs. off the loom.
